Do you think SIM registration  would this lessen crime incidents in the country?

According to news report, Malacañang on Tuesday made firm their intentions of favoring proposals to register pre-paid SIM cards in the PH. According to a report by GMA, Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said that the National Telecommunications Comission (NTC) has deemed it preferable to have a law on SIM card registration.

“The executive branch has manifested its support to proposed bills that are now being discussed in Congress,” Coloma said.

Would there be issue on privacy and anonimity on messaging? How does sim registration affect ordinary filipino citizens?

I think implementing this measure would effectively minimize crime-related activities in the country primarily because people now would get cautious and callous on their ways communicating via their cellphone whether they communicate through sms messages or by calling. Sim registration will establish ownership information thus providing means to track down perpetrators once a person got involved on a certain crime. On the other hand, one disadvantage i see is that collecting sim ownership information to be stored in a centralized database could jeopardize one's privacy once these information get hacked.

Ano ba statistics ngayon ng mga prepaid subscribers? Diba sila yung mga unregistered? Technically speaking, when you say post paid, they are automatically considered as registered. In the event when they got technical problems on their mobile subscription, they can call for technical assistance

maraming nagrereklamo actually dito sa panukalang eto.. SIM registration in Philippines needs more public feedback, better if magkakaroon ng visual representation ang society and civil groups to discuss this kasi medyo sensitive din kasi ...

If ever this happens, sana man lang maprotektahan pa rin ang privacy ng mga number. Baka kasi pag naimplement eto baka magkaroon na tayo ng issues about privacy issues. lalo pa na ang mga applications ngayon nakatie up na sa mga mobile numbers especially online bank transactions.
