PH firm wins digital healthcare challenge  0
A Philippine medical technology company bested a number of firms from the US, Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines to claim the top prize at the Takeda Foundation Digital Healthcare Innovation Challenge, after a final pitching competition held at the Asian Institute of Management on August 6.

Ascendant Technologies Corp. of Makati was awarded the top prize for its electronic medical record (EMR) solution called The Finder, which allows cloud-based search and organization of medical records.

A unique feature of Ascendant’s EMR system is that it can catch red flags in a basic patient examination and forward them to the doctor specialists for further examination, according to the company.

For winning the contest, Ascendant was awarded a cash prize of $10,000 and the chance to work with sponsor Takeda Pharmaceuticals International to further develop its EMR solution, according to, the non-profit organizer of the Digital Healthcare Innovation Challenge.

The Digital Healthcare Innovation Challenge is underwritten by Takeda Healthcare Philippines Inc. (THPI), which is a subsidiary of Takeda Pharmaceuticals International GMBH, based in Switzerland. THPI described its main business as the import of pharmaceutical products in finished and semi-finished form, for several applications including gastroenterology, respiratory and inflammatory diseases, cardiology, oncology, women’s health, tissue management, and pain management.

In a statement the company explained, “Takeda is committed to innovation and we are doing this in the Philippines by introducing the latest cutting edge in medicine and utilizing digital technologies. Also part of our commitment to innovation is to support the local tech startups,” through programs like the Digital Healthcare Innovation Challenge.
