CBCP head: Keep watch of Arroyo impeach raps
« on: October 19, 2008, 04:16:04 PM »
MANILA, Philippines - The head of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) called anew for vigilance in the latest impeachment complaint against President Arroyo.

CBCP president and Jaro archbishop Angel Lagdameo said Filipinos should keep an eye on what happens next to the complaint, which was filed before the House of Representatives Monday.

"Kailangang subaybayan ng bawa\'t mamamayan ang pag-usad ng reklamo laban sa pangulo ng bansa (Each citizen should keep track of how the complaint against the president fares)," he said on Church-run Radio Veritas.

But he also cautioned other groups against "prejudging" whatever action legislators would take on the matter.

Caloocan bishop and CBCP public affairs unit head Deogracias Iñiguez Jr. said he welcomes the impeachment charges against Arroyo.

\'I will keenly follow the developments at the House of Representatives and see how they will handle the latest impeachment charges,"
he said.

The House of Representatives is expected to start tackling the impeachment complaint when Congress resumes session on Nov. 11.

Earlier, Lipa Archbishop Ramon Arguelles said the complaint appears to be a waste of time because President Arroyo\'s term is about to end.

Arguelles also expressed apprehension some individuals may just want to gain media mileage.

"They are trying to combat corruption but some people in government use money and influence to thwart impeachment proceedings," Arguelles said.- GMANews.TV
