Install 64bit SSRS on 64bit server 2008
« on: October 10, 2008, 06:06:27 PM »
I am pulling my hair out trying to install the 64bit version of SSRS on our 64bit Windows 2008 server.  We can install the 32bit without problem however.

Fresh install of 2k8 x64, fully patched. Tried the sql 2005 install and the prereq check shows warnings for IIS & ASP.net.
(I have verified that this is the 64bit version of sql) "Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) is either not installed or is disabled." & "Failed to find the ASP.Net Version Registration with Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS)."

I installed IIS and installed the following components: (some were selected by default)
Static Content
Default Document
Directory Browsing
HTTP Errors
HTTP Redirection
ASP.net
ISAPI Ext
ISAPI Filters
HTTP Logging
Request Monitor
Windows Authentication
Request Filtering
Static Content Compression
IIS Mgmt Console
IIS 6 metabase compatability
IIS 6 wmi compatibility
IIS 6 scripting tools
IIS 6 mgmt console

After restarting I tried the install again and this time IIS passed but there is still an ASP.net warning.  "64-bit ASP.Net is Registered. Required 32-bit ASP.Net to install Microsoft Reporting Services 2005(32-bit)."

If I ignore the warning I can install SQL, but cannot install reporting services.  If I run the "cscript %SYSTEMDRIVE%inetpubadminscriptsadsutil.vbs SET W3SVC/AppPools/Enable32bitAppOnWin64 1" command then I can install reporting services, but it is a 32bit install, not a 64bit.

I found this out when I tried to apply the 64bit service pack for SQL and it wouldn\'t patch Reporting Services.  If anyone has any ideas on this I would really appreciate them.

Does the 64bit version of Reporting Services even work on 64bit Windows 2008?
