I agree that that review is biased. But I am too a lotus fan. Can you build your own web-published GTD application with Outlook? How many more MS products will you need? LN is as pliable as you wish.
Unfortunately I would say that Exchange + Outlook is probably a better longrun choice for many as 3rd party applications offer MS Outlook integration and few are aware about LN. The aforementioned Outlook connector seems version dependent and problematic. If you are sure that you will never implement such an application then LN is much better, especially if domino hosted on linux. And it IS a sysadmin's paradise :)

Anyway what seems to be lacking from the article is the difference in purpose of these system. Exchange is a mail server and calendar appplication and Lotus is a rapid application development platform. If you need a mail server - Exchange will do. (Domino is better of course!) but if you need a complex business process support with approvals versioning web publishing etc then it has to be Lotus. They are just different beasts and comparing them is not practical.

I love Lotus Notes 8.5... very fast.. In my current job, we are seriously considering to migrate to Lotus Notes. There is much savings using this tool and seems very flexible when it comes to program customization. A lot of people just sees Lotus Notes as an email platform, but actually in reality it's something more... think about a lot of collaboration and business process approval cycles happening in every industry.

Definitely, a lot of features and a promising career for lotus notes developers out there. The java component makes it more powerful platform. I wonder how Lotus Notes 9.0 would be.. and looking at it. the future of collaboration seems very bright.

Microsoft Exchange on the other hand is also ok ... just to be fair... but am starting to love Lotus Notes this time =)

Wow, what a biased and misinformed matrix. There isn't a single fact correct on there about Exchange. Not one.
