Option 1 – By Using Control Panel

a. Click on Start and then open Control Panel.

b. In the Control Panel, click User Accounts and Family Safety.

c. Click on User Accounts.

d. Click on Turn User Account Control on or off.

e. Clear the tick or check mark on the box beside the Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer option.

f. Select OK.

When prompted, restart the computer. Note that the changes will affect all users on the computer.

To enable the UAC, simply tick or select the checkbox again.

Option 2 – Using Control Panel on Single User

a. A similar method with method 1, but access to UAC via a user account.

b. Select Start and then open Control Panel.

c. In the Control Panel, click User Accounts and Family Safety.

d. Click on Add or remove user account option.

e. Click to select any user account.

f. Select Go to the main User Account page.

g. Click Change security settings under “Make changes to your user account” section.

h. Uncheck the box beside the Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer option.

k.To enable the UAC, simply tick or select the checkbox again.

Option 3 – By Using Registry Editor

a. Go to Start. Then select Run. Run Registry Editor by typing “regedit”. Click Enter.

b. In Registry Editor, navigate to the following registry key:

CurrentVersionPoliciesSystem

c. Look for the following DWORD registry subkey in the right pane: Right click on EnableLUA registry subkey and choose Modify or click on EnableLUA registry value name in the right pane to modify the setting.

d. Right click, then select modify or double click on EnableLUA to modify the setting. On valud prompt, set the new value to 0. Click ok.

e. Exit from Registry Editor.

f. Then Restart your computer.

g. To enable the UAC again, simply change back the value of EnableLUA to 1 instead of 0.

Option 4 – By Using MsConfig System Configuration

a. Click Start. Run MsConfig from Run option.

b. In System Configuration window, Look for Tools tab.

c. Scroll down and look for “Disable UAP” or “Disable UAC” leywords. Click on that item. Then Click the Launch button and Ok button.

e. A command prompt window appears. Automatically execute and run certain process to disable UAC.

f. When you’re done, simply close your CMD window.

g. Then Close your Msconfig window.

h. Please Restart computer for changes to apply and effective.

i. To re-enable UAC, simply select “Enable UAP”/“Enable UAC” instead of “Disable UAP”/“Disable UAC”, and then click on Launch button. Then Click ok.

Option 5 – By Using Group Policy via Active Directory GPO or Local Group Policy

Please note that Home Basic and Home Premium editions do not have Local Group Policy Editor.

For normal users who bought their own notebook pcs and desktops for home use, you normally act as an administrator of your Operating System. But if you are in a corporate environment and serve as an IT administrator or system administrator who manages Windows Vista computers across your domain, group policy can be utilized an as effective way to propagate enabling or disabling of UAC. To disable UAC, you can use Local Group Policy or Active Directory GPO.

a. Click Start -> Run.

b. Type in gpedit.msc then click OK to open the Group Policy Editor.

c. Go to Computer Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Local Policies -> Security Options.

d. In the right details pane, locate the User Access Control policies. Right click each of the following policies and configure or change the value as indicated below after the dash (-):

* User Account Control: Detect application installations and prompt for elevation – Disabled
* User Account Control: Behavior of the elevation prompt for standard users – No prompt
* User Account Control: Run all administrators in Admin Approval Mode – Disabled

f. Restart the computer.

Option 6 : By Command Prompt

1. Open a command prompt with Administrator privileges. Go to All Programs -> Accessories, and then locate the Command Prompt menu item. Right click on Command Prompt. select Run as Administrator.

   

2. Run the following command to disable and turn off UAC; (Execute in one line) C:WindowsSystem32cmd.exe/k%windir%System32reg.exe ADD HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesSystem/vEnableLUA/t REG_DWORD/d0/f
3. To re-enable and turn back on the User Account Control, run the following command: (Execute in one line) C:WindowsSystem32cmd.exe /k %windir%System32reg.exe ADD HKLMSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesSystem/vEnableLUA/t REG_DWORD/d1/f
4. Then Reboot the computer for the changes to take effect.

One of the exciting features of this version is the theme preview function. Actually this feature is nothing new. Although I must admit,  I’ve missed this feature since i got here into self-hosting. (If you’re blogging using the free wordpress account, they have this functionality.) Such a helpful tool especially when previewing various WP templates for your blog.

But if you want it drafted, here’s a rundown list (collected) of the new and exciting features of WordPress 2.6

Plugin Auto-Installation — In WordPress 2.5, you were able to upgrade plugins automatically; in WordPress 2.6, you have similar functionality separated by Inactive and Active Plugins.

Remote publishing disabled by default — Having the main avenue of attack for WordPress blogs be disabled by default will be great for WordPress security.

WordPress Auto-Upgrade — There’s been some early progress on incorporating auto-upgrade for WordPress itself into version 2.6.

Admin SSL support — The WordPress 2.6 admin should be able to be visited via either HTTP (normal connection) or HTTPS (encrypted connection), with the option to make admin HTTPS mandatory.

Theme preview — Theme preview functionality would allow you to see what a new theme would look like on your blog before you activate it. If you are a 2.5 version, a plugin might be useful if you dont want to upgrade yet to 2.6

Theme paging — For those of you with a ton of WordPress themes (more than 15), you’ll be able to page through them in the administration. This should be especially useful for WordPress MU blogs that have large theme collections.

Ability to move wp-config.php — In WordPress 2.6, you’ll be able to move wp-config.php one directory level below the public root. Perhaps this could also allow multiple WordPress installations to share the same config file?

Google Gears support — Now integrated into the WordPress trunk, this feature will allow Google Gears users to experience a faster admin interface, and possibly manage their WordPress blogs while offline (how cool would that be?).

Identicons — the ability to select a default Gravatar for those who don’t have one.

Post Revisions — Wiki-style revisions management for blog posts: a cool new power-feature where you can see various versions of your post, see the edits, last modified and repost the old version if you wish.

Shift-Click Checkbox Selection — In WordPress 2.6, there is an easier way to select a range of checkboxes in the category, comment, tag, post, page, and media administration sections by checking the “start” checkbox, holding the Shift key, and then checking the “end” checkbox…just like a Gmail style

Post Word Count — A WordPress.com feature that might be making its way into WordPress 2.6. You can now count the number of words you type in the WP Editor pad.

“Press This” Bookmarklet — The bookmarklet (which existed in WordPress 2.3 and prior but was removed in WordPress 2.5) has returned, new and improved.

It’s exciting to think about these features when you haven’t upgraded yet. But I take “migration” as a careful step as i heard lot of bugs coming from the early adopters of this version.  I decided to delay my upgrade… maybe waiting for the WP 2.6.1 release so as not to ramble about installation and other issues. But if you decided to upgrade right away to this WP 2.6 version, you might encounter some bugs along the process. Some of the WP early adoptors of this version said they’ve  experience errors in:

.- Permalinks, Category Permalinks (w/c might get fixed with WP 2.6.1)

- Categories (as see as randomly displayed in some themes not compatible to 2.6)

- Issue on Logging to WP account (some says you just need to clear your cache for this to work)

- other compatibility issues with plugins and templates.

As for my advice, if you know your way around a WordPress database and installation then go ahead. It’s your choice, just be prepared for the risk part of resolving some of the minor glitches you might encounter. Just don’t forget to clear up your cookies as you might experience login issues with wordpress.  But if you want stability, compatibility and  doesn’t want to mess up with the current blog setup, then stay put with 2.5. Let’s just wait for 2.6.1 to arrive =)

UDA-SQL-0432:Unable to locate the gateway “cogudaor”

I had already this feeling that this error has something to do with Database connection because when i attempted to create a separate query in his framework manager, i used an XML source instead of another oracle database as a source and no such error appeared.

The “cogudaor” is the Windows gateway for establishing connections to an Oracle data source. On UNIX the gateway will be listed as “libcogudaor”. -Cognos Forum

We tried to resolve this error using the suggested recommendation seen on Cognos Forum :

But the error still persisted. Taking this note as a consideration, he says he can access his oracle databases using TOAD, so i thought maybe the init.ora files and tnsnames in his oracle directory are working properly. But one thing that is quite puzzling to me is that he has two versions of Oracle client, i.e. 9i and 10g. Since he has these 2 versions, i suggested, why not rearrange their position in the Environment variables so that the latest version comes first before the older version. Later on as he did this trick (…simply rearranging their position in the Path Environment Variables), it turns out that his Framework Manager started working correctly.

Lesson Learned:

It is always suggested to have only one version of Oracle database Client on your machine. But as a developer sometimes we are bound to various applications systems with different system requirements hence this suggestion maybe overridden. In any case that you really need to have 2 versions of Oracle Clients versions on your machine, let the latest version be on first list of your Environment variable – Path (Control Pane-> System->Advanced->Environment Variables->Path)

This is an excerpt in the cognos forum which maybe useful in resolving connection errors related with this one.

Environment:

The “cogudaor” is the Windows gateway for establishing connections to an Oracle data source. On UNIX the gateway will be listed as “libcogudaor”.

Root Cause:

Incomplete configuration of the Oracle client. There are many ways that this issue may manifest itself. The items listed below are a means of identifying which areas are causing the connection difficulties.

Solution:

Identify that the Oracle Client drivers have been installed on all related Cognos systems. Make sure that the systems are restarted after the Oracle Client drivers have been installed. For Cognos 8 the client driver is required on both the Cognos 8 server and on systems running Framework Manager. Framework Manager establishes it’s own connections to isolate resource consumption and prevent latencies on the Cognos 8 server due to long-running queries that may be executed from Framework Manager during model development and testing.

Compare the version of the Oracle client driver to those listed for the supported environments of the product version that you are using. Note that Cognos 8 increases the minimum driver version to 9.2.0.1 (Oracle 9i Release 2). Earlier releases of Cognos ReportNet supported older Oracle client drivers. Refer to the following resource to identify the supported driver versions for your Cognos products.

Search the system for multiple tnsnames.ora files. It is possible that multiple Oracle clients or tnsnames.ora files exist and the connection string has not been defined within the “active” copy of the tnsnames.ora. If multiple files are located then ensure that the expected connection alias is defined within each tnsnames.ora to eliminate any possible inconsistencies.

The Oracle “tnsping” command can be used to test a given connection alias. Running “tnsping ALIAS_NAME” from a command window will obtain the client driver connection information from the current environment settings and return a success or failure message indicating if the ALIAS_NAME defines a valid Oracle connection. When successful the return message should look like the following:

Attempting to contact (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)
(HOST=yourhostname)(PORT=1521)) OK (50 msec)

Similarly, if the connection can be established on one system in the Cognos 8 environment but fails when tested on another system then ensure that the tnsnames.ora on the failing system contains the same connection string as on a system where the connection is successful. Copying the file or entry within the file to the failing environment will ensure that the connection information is the same in both environments. Following an update to the tnsnames.ora file, test the connection using tnsping on the problem systems to validate the copied connection string.

In some cases a server identified by name may not be resolvable on secondary systems (i.e. if name resolution is not configured or the secondary system is in a secured environment such as a DMZ). In such cases it may be necessary to update the copied tnsnames.ora entry to refer to the Oracle database server using an IP address instead of the server name.

Once the tnsnames.ora aliases have been defined and tested, ensure that the alias in the tnsnames.ora file matches the alias in the Cognos 8 connection string. Oracle’s SQLPlus will allow you to establish connections based on unqualified aliases while Cognos 8 requires the exact alias name to make the appropriate connection.

For example, if an alias is defined as NAME.DOMAIN.COM then SQLPlus will allow connections using just the NAME portion of the alias. Cognos 8 would require the full NAME.DOMAIN.COM alias to be defined in the connection string.

Attempt to use the Oracle client tools to establish a connection to the Oracle database. Using SQLPlus to establish a connection may provide additional details regarding the failures.

For example, attempting to connect to an Oracle 10G database using a 9i client driver when the 10G client is required may result in the following error message: ORA-12638: Credential retrieval failed

If the error message above is occuring in Framework Manager then ensure that the Cognos 8 server is started, accessible, and fully configured. If the Cognos 8 server is unreachable then the connection string information will not be accessible to Framework Manager.

If the Oracle client libraries are missing or not accessible then a connection may fail with the above message. For example, if for any reason the oci.dll (located in the Oracle bin directory) is unavailable then the connection will fail.

Ensure that the environment variables for the system are configured to access the Oracle client. For full details on configuration requirements please refer to your Oracle documentation. As a quick reference, on Windows, the Oracle bin directory must be located in the PATH environment variable. On UNIX the Oracle bin must be located in the PATH variable and the lib (or lib32 in when using 32-bit libraries along side of the 64-bit client installation) directory must be added to the library path.

PATH : Include the location of the bin directory located within the Oracle client installation.
ORACLE_HOME : Location of the base directory of the Oracle client installation. (On Windows Systems this may not be necessary for later versions of the Oracle client)
TNS_ADMIN : Directory containing the tnsnames.ora file. The file must have the Oracle instance defined. (This may be optional. In the event that this is not defined the tnsnames.ora file should be obtained from the NETWORK\ADMIN location within the Oracle client install location or ORACLE_HOME)

UNIX library path references:
Solaris: LD_LIBRARY_PATH (Example: LD_LIBRARY_PATH=Oracle_Home/lib32 etc.)
HPUX: SHLIB_PATH
AIX: LIBPATH

If a 3rd party application server (such as WebSphere , WebLogic , Oracle Application Server , SAP NetWeaver , or JBOSS ) is being used for your Cognos 8 environment then it may also be necessary to review the startup scripts and configuration settings of your application server to ensure that the path settings to access the Oracle client libraries are not being reset by startup scripts or defined incorrectly within the 3rd party products. Refer to your application server documentation for details on identifying custom environment settings.

On Windows the 3rd party tools, Dependency Walker, RegMon, and FileMon (RegMon and FileMon are available from SysInternals) can assist in identifying missing or inaccessible files. Dependency Walker can be attached to cogudaor.dll (located in the Cognos bin directory) to identify any inaccessible libraries required for establishing the connection.

On UNIX the ldd command can be used to identify the dependencies of the libcogudaor library (located in the Cognos bin directory).

ldd libcogudaor<oracle version number>.(so|a|o)** — Solaris, HPUX and AIX (depending which utility is installed)
** File extensions depend on operating system.
dump -H libcogudaor.so — AIX

Using these trace utilities will also identify scenarios where the libraries are being sourced from a location other than the expected Oracle bin directory (i.e. other software or other oracle client installations may be identified in the system PATH environment variable and are being sourced inappropriately for the required Oracle libraries). If multiple Oracle clients are installed on a system ensure that the proper client is listed first in the PATH variable.

Note that in some environments the Oracle client drivers are available in both 64-bit and 32-bit versions. The 32-bit client libraries are required for establishing a connection with Cognos 8. Refer to your Oracle product documentation for the details on installing and configuring your environment to use the 32-bit client libraries.

Also, in some Windows environments the environment variables set during the installation of the Oracle client software may not be immediately accessible to applications running as a service. In such scenarios a reboot of the system may be required to finalize the configuration of the newly-installed Oracle client software.

On rare occasions there have also been issues reported where a Oracle client installation on UNIX does not copy the libclntsh.so to the lib32 directory of the Oracle installation. It is recommended that you contact your software vendor for the appropriate steps to resolve this issue. A copy of the file can be obtained from the temporary files created during the Oracle client installation using the following steps:
1. Locate the file libclntsh.a from the temporary installation directory (i.e. located at /tmp/OraInstall2005-03-22_08-49-34AM/oui/bin/aix/
2. Extract the file shr.o from libclntsh.a archive using the command “ar -xv libclntsh.a”
3. Rename shr.o to libclntsh.so and copy this file to the 32-bit library directory of your Oracle client installation.

Changes to the environment should be followed by a restart of the Cognos products to ensure that the new settings are applied.

The connection for Cognos 8 may have been defined without a user ID or password enabled. If these options are not enabled then the user ID and password will not be included in the connection string when estabilishing the Oracle connection and Oracle may reject the attempt as unauthorized. These properties can be located by

Selecting Directory from the Tools menu in Cognos Connection.
From the Directory page, select Data Sources and click on the data source that you are using.
After clicking on the data source you will be shown the list of connections defined for the data source. For the connection you wish to use, select the Set Properties action and then click on the Connection tab.
After clicking on the Pencil icon to edit the connection string you will be presented with the options to enable the use of a User ID and Password for the connection. Ensure that these are checked and then click the OK button twice to commit the changes.
Once the User ID and Password are enabled it is also necessary to check the credentials defined for the Signon object. To do so, click on the listed Connection (this is reached by following steps 1 and 2).
The Signon objects will now be displayed. If no signons are available then you may need to create one using the New Signon button from the toolbar at the top right of the page. If a signon already exists then click the Set Properties action for the signon and then click the Signon tab.
Click the Edit the Signon… link to view the assigned credentials. Retype the User ID and Password using a known valid combination to ensure that the credentials are valid and then click the OK button twice to commit the changes.
The connection and signon can be tested by returning to the connection object (steps 1 and 2) and then selecting the Test the Connection action.

Additional trace information can be obtained through detailed tracing mechanisms available within Cognos 8. To enable this tracing, rename the CQEconfig.xml.samples file (located in the Cognos 8 configuration directory) to CQEconfig.xml and restart Cognos 8. This change will direct more detailed error messages to the cogserver.log file (located in the Cognos 8 logs directory) and may include additional information not reported in the messages presented through the product user interfaces.

Note: the CQEconfig file should be returned to the orginal file name (with the “.sample” extension) and Cognos 8 restarted when the tracing is complete to disable the detailed logging mechanisms as the detailed logging may impact product performance.
If error was caused cube creation in transformer (cogtr) in AIX environment, change the settings for ulimit.

ulimit -d unlimited
ulimit -m unlimited

1. If you just want to check the version information of the Oracle database, simply connect and login to the Oracle database with SQL *Plus. Upon login, you will see:

The first italic number is the version of the SQL*Plus client and the second italic number is the version of Oracle database which you are connected to .

2. Retrieve the version information from v$version table by using SQL*Plus. In this table you can find version information on Oracle, PL/SQL, etc.

To retrieve the version information for Oracle, you execute the following SQL statement:

select * from v$version;

3. Version information can also be checked from Installed Products from the Oracle Universal Installer. It will tells you what products is installed on the machine and also its version information too. I have various versions on my machine as this is

In Unix, the installer is located at $ORACLE_HOME/bin/runInstaller.
In Windows, access the installer by Start -> All Programs -> Oracle Installed Products -> Universal Installer.

By the way, i am using Windows Vista Ultimate version in my PC. Oracle 9i is not compatible with Windows Vista so you have to install Oracle 10g Release 2. Look for the free download in the Oracle Website =)

Option 1: Getting the Youtube URL and using third party website

What i initially is this: I used to go to this free website : video clipnabber or keepvid.. copy and paste the source URL address from Youtube to clipnabber or keepvid site then press Nab Video or download button. Option 2: Saving youtube from browsers cache

I thought this was the easiest step i have to deal downloading the youtube files

This article tells your how to download videos, not only from YouTube, but also from other video sharing sites using Firefox. I’ll be considering only YouTube here, ok. The procedure will be the same for any streaming media. For Internet Explorer, basically its the same concept, you just need to get the file from the cache directory of Microsoft Internet Explorer. Anyhow here it goes…

Step 1: Go to YouTube website and play your favorite video you want to download.

Step 2: After the video has been loaded, open a new tab (Ctrl + T) or a new Firefox window and type

about:cachein the address bar.

Copy the location of the Cache Directory. (It’s different for everyone) .

Mine is in this path:

For FireFox:

C:\Documents and Settings\r8z\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profilesl1uh2qd.default \Cache

For Internet Explorer:

C:\Documents and Settings\r8z\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\[folder]

[folder] is the random folder where you think getvideo[1] file is located. getvideo[1] is generated in this folder, whenever youtube video is played in the Internet Explorer.

Note: r8z is different from computer to computer… but whats important is you look for the keywords Mozilla, FireFox in your Application Data Folder.

Step 3: Open the Run dialog box (Start -> Run), paste the path of the Cache Directory (Ctrl + V), and press enter. You’ll now see a list of files with weird names

Step 4: Sort the files according to their size. The biggest file is most probably your video. Usually, the size of a 4-5 minute long video is around 7-20 MB.

Step 5: After you locate the largest file, copy it to some folder on your computer and give it an extension -- .flv

You can play this using any player which supports FLV format. A good player is the Media Player Classic which is available with the K-Lite Codec Pack. You can also try FLV Player.

If you want to convert the flv to an avi file, you can download Free Flv to Avi Converter.

The best thing about this is this trick can actually be applied to any video sharing site. The only thing is that you have to give the correct extension (In youtube, it’s .flv) to the file.

Now look for the yahoo messenger icon (mostly resides on the desktop) double click it until it opens another Yahoo Messenger! (wait till it opens)

I don’t know up to how many messnegers you can open at the same time. But hey I am not responsible if something goes wrong with your PC ok? I’ve tried this with WIndows XP Professional OS and Windows Vista Ultimate Edition and both worked.

If it doesn’t work the first time, try closing your yahoo messenger first then open it again. Sometimes refreshing the windows desktop is all you need to do to reflect the changes or you can reboot your PC if the problem still appears.

In addition, please do note that I’ve tried this using YM version 8 …not yet on version 9. Maybe someone is nice enough to share their experiences here =). For version 8 users, try and see for yourself or maybe post a feedback here if you’ve tried it on version 9. =)

Now i am able to do logging on to Yahoo Messenger with multiple accounts… This is nice especially if you want to chat with different circle of friends, family or officemates you have =)

Step 1:
Click the Pearl button located at the bottom left corner of your screen and on the Start Search type “command prompt”, then press [Enter]. Or You could browse the command prompt on the list under Program

Step 2:
When the Command Prompt window appears, type in “ipconfig/all” then press [Enter].

Step 3:
Check your computer’s IP address, Default Gateway and DNS. They should have the same first three numbers. It can be any number other than 169.254.x.x. The default IP Address is 192.168.1.x where x is any number from 100-149 and Default Gateway is 192.168.1.1. In this example, we used Local Area Connection.

NOTE: If your computer is getting 0.0.0.0 or 169.254.xxx.xxx IP address you need to release and renew your IP address. (you type in “ipconfig/release” (- to disconnect connection to network) and “Ipconfig/Renew” (- to reconnect to network ) after in command prompt. Take note of the IPv4 Address. )

Question: What are Ping Ipconfig and Winipcfg utilities used for?

Answer: Ipconfig shows current TCP/IP settings, “ping” is a useful TCP/IP utility to check network connectivity. “Winipcfg” is an old utility from Windows 9x/Me and was a graphic version of Ipconfig that is not used anymore.
